Week 1 Pinterest Challenge

I didn’t really sift through Pinterest with Miss Gaia this week before her father scooped her away for his turn. She is still wrapped up in all her Christmas gifts anyway. She did do some crafting of her own, using the fashion headband kit that my mother sent for her birthday last month. She’s also apparently learning to sketch, which I am extremely proud of.

Keep in mind that she just turned five. I could be totally wrong, but I feel like this is excellent progress as far as her artistic talent goes. She loves to write and draw and paint and I love it. She’s so awesome.

What did mama learn to do this week? Well I utilized Pinterest to learn how to 5-strand braid so I could make a nifty key chain for my cousin. We used to love the Sarah McLaughlin commercial against the cruelty of animals. I got him a semi-lame Christmas gift, and when I found this charm (which he gave me ages ago) I decided it’d be a nice gesture to return it in a useful manner. ASPCA key chain, go!

Also, Hutch’s brother joined the army last year and he was home for the holidays but because I went out of town I didn’t do Christmas with his family. I assumed he’d be home longer than he was, but he left on the 1st for his deployment in Korea. He says it’s frightfully cold, so I’m crocheting him up a scarf to help him keep warm. I decided to learn a new stitch. I had the spider stitch in my archives and so I’m trying to do that. I’m using a super bulky yarn though (and it’s black because that’s the color Hutch said I should make it). We’ll see how it turns out. πŸ™‚

  1. Pinterest is amazing! For me, it has become the recipe mecca and I find myself on there for hours–literally hours–drooling over the food people have made.

That Sarah McLaughlin commercial depresses me every single time I see it. Now I immediately grab the remote when it comes on, which defeats the purpose of the commercial, I know, but oh so sad! I saw a picture floating around Facebook a while ago from that commercial that said, “Hi, I’m Sarah McLaughlin and I’m here to ruin your whole day!”

  2. I think that’s great progress for Gaia’s age! Much better than me! LOL.

The keychain you made looks great! <3

  3. I love Pinterest, too. I’m so impressed with the scarf you made. I keep thinking I need to learn to crochet so I can make some dishcloths.

  4. Great post. I have not really been able to get into Pinterest yet. But I understand there are a lot of great ideas and recipes on there. Looks like you are making nice things for your family.

  5. Pinterest is way too addicting I could spend all day on there.

  6. I’m so in love with Pinterest. There’s so much the can be done!! I do like the braid you made πŸ™‚ And your 5 year old is on her way to artistic wonders!! πŸ™‚

  7. CUTE! And I love the idea – I definitely want to try to get in on this for sure!

  8. Great idea! I wanted to do something like that this year…do a Pinterest thing everyday….guess I can still start! Good luck!

  9. Love Pinterest..I saw that 5 strand braid. I don’t have a use for it yet, but a good one to pin somewhere.

Yes that is a very good drawing for a 5 year old in my opinion!

  10. definitely something I should do – maybe create a board of just things that I want to attempt to make/cook.The scarf looks warm, for sure.

  11. Pinterest has SO MANY great ideas!!! And ideas I can put into practical use!

  12. I’m amazed that the drawing is from your 5 year old. Definitely very talented! I didn’t even know you could do a 5-strand braid. It makes 3 strands seem so…inadequate.
