The joys of being a mother definitely outweigh the annoyances, I won’t argue. However, you can’t deny that we all have those things that make us think, “Why exactly did I think this was a good idea?” For me this baby number 2 is a fairly simple one. He’s calm and quiet, an observer like his mama. He’s curious, but cautious. He gives almost everything a try, but once he decides he doesn’t like it he’s quick to let you know. He’s a breeze compared to my loud, opinionated, fiery 5-year-old. But there’s one thing my children have in common: Neither of them handle teething well.
I admit not all of my children’s toys are natural. Sometimes mama needs those lighted, noisy things to distract the kids while I do housework. However, we do have an even mix because natural toys are always a better option. Natural toys promote creativity and imagination. “Busy” toys keep the brain active and can overstimulate your baby, whereas natural toys allow for a smooth transition into downtime. Not to mention the health dangers in plastics commonly used in toys.
So when it comes to the tough task of growing teeth it only makes sense to keep our teethers as close to nature as possible. It didn’t take long in my journey to find the perfect solution. Smiling Tree Toys was recommended by several moms in my local babywearing group so I just knew I had to give it a try.
Upon visiting the website I instantly fell in love! There is such a wide selection from animals to letters and even states! We couldn’t decide if we wanted an alien, a cat, or a toadstool. After much consideration we settled on the guitar. And as a sweet bonus, each teether is personalized with a name to create a long-lasting gift to be used over and over again through the years.
Anders isn’t having a great November. He’s working on his top teeth, has had a growth spurt, a sinus infection, and a wonder week too! Since there’s a lot more mobility these days, it was very important that he be able to easily travel with his new toy. It is essential for him to be able to follow me around during these difficult times (“Being a baby is hard, help mom!”) so it’s a good thing our natural wooden teether is easy to hold. The circle opening is perfect for baby hands.
The teethers are lightweight and feel soft to the touch and smooth. Smiling Tree Toys uses certified American-grown hardwoods for their toys and an organic camelina oil/beeswax blend to protect the wood and bring out the natural colors. The oil/wax blend is home grown right on the family’s land in Minnesota. That’s about as natural as you get, folks!
Smiling Tree Toys is completely dedicated to making natural, safe products for baby. Aside from teethers, Smiling Tree Toys also carries natural wooden rattles, blocks, puzzles, and tons of other toys for children. They even carry personalized ornaments! Everything on the site is built to last, handled with care, and affordable.
But that’s not all! Smiling Tree Toys gives back! The makers of Smiling Tree Toys donate to Peace Corp youth programs for every item sold. I don’t know about you, but I absolutely adore USA-based businesses who fight to help all of mankind!
