Relax a Little with Talk and Soothe Digital Video Monitor

I am not one of those overprotective mothers, I swear. I actually feel as if I’m a little too carefree sometimes when it comes to my parenting style. However, being on baby number two I’ve learned a few things and modified my ways to fit into a middle ground that is comfortable for our family. And one of my favorite baby-related technologies is a video monitor. When I was offered a chance to review the new Talk and Soothe Digital Video Monitor from The First Years, I traded in my old one and upgraded.

My previous monitor was a hand-me-down from our good friends who are expecting any day now. I wanted to be able to give it back and still enjoy the benefits of having a video monitor. I really like using my crib, even if it is for only half a night 4 days a week. I can have some mom time to finish school work, play video games, or craft if I feel like it. However, my previous video monitor had such a large video end. The Talk and Soothe video monitor is handheld and can be carried, clipped on, or propped up with a stealthy stand.

My picture does not do the all-color video screen justice. You can easily adjust brightness in one of the settings. The setting are pretty intense actually. From the hand-held side you can switch between cameras (if you have two kids in two rooms, for example), turn on lullabies, talk back to your baby (which I find a little creepy and I think ti still scares him), and turn on and off the night light.

Truth: We use the night light ever night because our house is so dark you can’t see when you get up to pee at 4am.

Another function we love is that the camera end mounts on the wall. I simply guided the extra long cord out of the way to prevent any crazy mishaps with my super reachy emerging toddler. However, it only rotates on one axis… up and down. My previous monitor camera rotated any which way. So when mounting the camera on the wall, I had to move it to get the perfect angles for the entire crib.

Overall we love the Talk and Soothe Digital Video Monitor from The First Years. They can be a bit pricey, but well worth the investment and actually quite affordable compared to other video monitors when you consider all the fabulous features. It is also available at your local Target store.

That’s not all! Through Jan. 31, 2014, customers who purchase specially marked The First Years monitors (the new Talk & Soothe Digital Video Monitor, the Crisp & Clear Double or Single Audio Monitor) in-store at Target will receive a gift from Snapfish, including a FREE classic photo book or a discount off of their entire photo book order. This bonus makes The First Years monitors a great holiday gift for new or expecting parents.

You can keep up with The First Years on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or sign up with their newsletter to stay connected and get the latest product details.

This is nice. I wish I had did when my daughter was smaller.

  4. we have this monitor for the coming baby! i like seeing how you mounted it to the wall, since we are mid-house buying so i havent mounted ours yet. looks great!

    • I like how it doesn’t look too “robotic…” if that makes sense. It’s very soft and barely noticeable on our white walls.

  5. Great review! I love mine too! 🙂

can someone tell me how to set it up… i cant :S we got it as a gift but the manual is not in the box… i need help please.. thank you…

    • I believe you just put the battery in and plug both units in. You have to turn the camera on by pressing the button on the base. Then turn on the handheld receiver. It really isn’t too difficult. I hope this helps!
