Summer Fun at Lowry Park Zoo’s Wallaroo Station

On May 11, 2002 Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo introduced Wallaroo Station, a 4.5 acre Australian-themed family area, where thousands of families with young children have enjoyed an interactive Australian adventure. The hands-on, family-friendly features helped the Zoo secure top honors from two national parenting magazines: Parents, "10 Best Zoos," (2009); and Child, "The 10 Best Zoos for Kids" (2004). Earlier this week I took the kids to enjoy the newly remodeled Wallaroo Station. It was even more "Auss-ome" with new animals and upgraded amenities for both kids and parents to enjoy. We've only been once before, but we noticed there were … [Read more...]

Holiday Cheer at Busch Gardens® Tampa Christmas Town

Christmas in my family has always been big. We didn't grow up with much, but my mother worker her butt off to make sure that the winter holiday was a joyous one. I normally travel for the holidays to reconnect with distant relatives and spend the days surrounded by people I love. Because of many different things, traveling was not an option this year so my little family of four decided to make the most of our quiet Christmas at home. In order to still make this year memorable, we looked for things to do here in Tampa that would have the kids excited all month long. One of our favorite excursions was when we visited Busch Gardens® Tampa for … [Read more...]

Honeymoon Cruise Photo Dump

In case you were unaware, I finally hitched Hutch early in November. We've known each other since before my oldest was born, but had a break where she was conceived, born, and I failed my first marriage. When my life seemed rather gloomy, Hutch found me once again and reminded me that my heart was already spoken for. After some trial and error on my part, I was finally able to be with the man I truly love. And this past November we made it official. Yay us! The wedding was followed by one of the longest vacations ever! That's not necessarily a good thing, folks. It was a honeymoon though, and we really liked having the extra time to relax … [Read more...]

A Day with the Mermaids at Weeki Wachee State Park

I had always heard about Weeki Wachee while growing up. I had seen the signs all along the interstate when traveling as a kid down to Orlando with my parents on vacation. as the years went by, I assumed it had closed due to lack of the advertising that you see for other Florida attractions. while down this past summer to see my daughter and grandkids, I noticed signs for it and as I have a granddaughter who loves mermaids, I decided to take them to see the story of The Little Mermaid performed by real live mermaids! That opportunity presented itself when my daughter set her wedding date for November 8th and asked if I would come stay with … [Read more...]

These Love Birds Got Hitched!

It's done. I'm married, guys! I want to lead by telling you how disastrous the wedding was, but it was kind of magical at the same time. Long story short it rained on the afternoon of my modest backyard shindig. In fact, the rain began as we were saying our vows giving us only an hour to enjoy all the pretty decorations before having to move what we could inside (and that was only thanks to a lovely neighbor offering up his canopy for guests). It was cramped inside my father's home, to say the least, but we managed to ride out the storm among friends and family. We only scared off a few people with our shoulder-to-shoulder shenanigans and … [Read more...]

My New Go-To Diner

I love food. I love homestyle breakfast food the most. Tampa is a weird little town sometimes and finding the perfect place that's both delicious and comfy without being overpriced has proven to be quite the task. I don't yet know anyone who shares the same tastes as I do when it comes to diners, but luckily my fiance has been on the hunt. The other weekend he was treating em to breakfast and did a simple Google search for restaurants that served breakfast. Google pulled up several, most we had already tried. As we scrolled through the list we notice that The Recipe Box had several positive reviews. We found the location, decided it had … [Read more...]

Keeping Up the Fun with 5-hour ENERGY®

Disclaimer: I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for #CollectiveBias and its advertiser.  Being a mom is hard work. There's the early wake up calls, the demand for food, the chores, the "I didn't really plan to clean poop off my walls today" incidents, and the frantic search to squeeze in some me time. I admittedly sacrifice sleep for "me time." Sometimes I reach for copious amounts of coffee trying to perfectly time the crash around nap time. Other times I need to stay alert and get things done. That's where 5-hour ENERGY® shots come in … [Read more...]

Kicking Off Summer at Busch Gardens® Tampa!

Ah, summer in Florida... where the heat means business and shade is hard to come by. Since I've lived here all my life I know that the easiest thing to do is to stay inside under an A/C vent or park a fan in front of your bed... where you'll lay forever alone and dying from sweat. (My mom calls this "melting.") But you never have fun if you do that huh? The truth is, as parents we just have to buck up and venture out into the world because keeping kids inside all day just is not happening. Not when school gets out and everything looks beautiful under the vibrant sun. Thus, I've declared this summer the Summer of Splash Pads! One of our … [Read more...]

A Prehistoric Adventure!

We celebrated Memorial Day at Dinosaur World. We literally live like 15-20 minutes from this theme park an it's a shame we don't get the chance to head out there more often. As first timers, we were afraid we'd signed up for something we weren't prepared for. But to much of our delight, Dinosaur World Florida was the perfect mix of laid back and fun so we were able to explore at our own pace and leave with smiling faces. I took my daughter and her father, because although we are no longer together we like to make a real effort to connect and stay friends. Because I'm not only a good friend but also the perfect ex-wife, his girlfriend and … [Read more...]

My First Homeschool Conference Experience

CAUTION: Very wordy post ahead! If you follow me on social media or have the joy of being in my inner circles, you may have heard about my goal to homeschool Gaia next year. The option to home school has always been on the table for her, but she's so social I felt like public school might do her good. Sadly, I was mistaken. What happened instead is that she's so focused on making friends and being like everyone else that she doesn't focus on her academics. Though I've made arrangements to still feed the side of her that needs a lot of social interaction, in order to get her back on track to what is important I'm committing myself to … [Read more...]
