Worth it.

I'm really bad at this. I wanted to take pictures of my classroom before the students got there, but I forgot. I actually never remember to do that. However, I have taken a couple here and there. So for those of you wondering what my first year teaching looks like. Here's a sneak peak. First and foremost, my white board. I planned it out with dry erase and it worked wonderfully. I changed my Students vs. Teacher blocks to homework and reminders. I've noticed the kids need this visual. I can incorporate a point system later if needed. And it turned out rather well. I admit I'm not using CHAMPS enough. I'm trying, but it's … [Read more...]

Sewing Tutorial: D.I.Y. Essential Oils Travel Pouch

My family and I are headed to California next week. Exciting stuff! It's time to start thinking about the most effective way to pack for 4 people. And I'll be honest, I have a hard time bringing more than I need... Right now I am able to keep all of my essential oils in a small tin. I only have like 11 bottles, but I have friends whose collections are much bigger. While discussing travel plans and essential oil packing, one friend of mine decided she needed a rather large pouch to protect and contain her EOs. So, after several trials and errors, I came up with this. My pattern piece is a trapezoid with the top, shorter side at 11 … [Read more...]

Making Expired Breast Milk Lotion (Revised)

A year ago I posted a very exciting and popular article that detailed how to make expired breast milk lotion. I received several inquiries on separation issues. Since I'm such a nice person, I wanted to fix this for my mama friends. I want those of you making this recipe to enjoy it fully with as little issues as possible. I did more research and I've revised my recipe to account for some issues. Breast milk is a great resource for healing skin ailments. Paired with shea butter, coconut oil, and honey this concoction is sure to leave your skin feeling healthy and new. This lotion is great for eczema, rashes, and dry skin. In my … [Read more...]

Christmas Savings at the Dollar Tree

The holiday seems like it's sneaking up, doesn't it? I'm scrambling to get sewing finished and gifts wrapped, not to mention having to actually mail things so they get to their destination in time for Christmas morning festivities. With working, school, and home life I'm actually very proud of my progress so far and I'm confident it'll all work out. And thanks to stores like the Dollar Tree I'm able to save money while making sure everything is in place. I had big plans to make a Santa inspired wreath from tulle and such, but alas I am also overly ambitious. As things began piling up I realized I was the only one without decorations on ym … [Read more...]

The Dollar Tree has all your Thanksgiving kid craft needs!

You know I like to recycle toilet paper rolls. In fact, throwing them away makes me feel really super guilty so I'm constantly trying to find ways to use them in various crafts and activities. I honestly was waiting for the time to come to do the following project because I knew it would be so easy for me and so fun for the kids all at the same time. It's pretty cheap too, considering that the Dollar Tree has all of the basic essentials you need for a day of basic crafting at home. Because we're Floridians and aren't used to winter (What's a winter?), we're cooped up inside fearful of the 50 degree weather that has cursed our land. This mama … [Read more...]

Salt Dough Craft: Egyptian Cartouche

I love Egypt and I love being able to share my love for this part of history with my daughter. If homeschooling has taught me anything it's that everyone needs space and everyone needs to slow down sometimes. I admit I'm not perfect, and I fell behind a few weeks ago in my well thought-out (if not overly ambitious) lesson plans. I was trying to hurry up and I was frustrated because my daughter was not learning at the same speed that I was teaching. I felt like a failure and I managed to find the strength to walk away from my failures. We were learning about Egypt and I was trying to get Gaia to recognize the complexity of hieroglyphic … [Read more...]

Rainy Day Spider Crafts for Halloween

For most people fall is all about festivals and hay rides and craft fairs. I'm all about that, too! In fact, October is my favorite month because it's like my annual kick off to happy. Sometimes we get rained out here in Florida, so I like to stay prepared with a box of craft supplies from the Dollar Tree. Today we laid out everything and just went to town. With Halloween on the agenda later this month, we decided some spooky spiders were necessary to decorate the windows. My daughter, Gaia, loves little spiders and they were really simple for her to use a number of skills during our little activity time. For the spider bodies we each … [Read more...]

All-Natural Immune Boosting Elderberry Infused Soda {Say That 5 Times Fast}

So my fiance and I did a soda-free September as a part of Operation: Get Sexy. We cheated towards the end, but I do not plan to ever make soda as much of a part of my life like I did before. I wasn't sure if I could do it, but I did! And I have a secret to share to help those of you who might be struggling as you try to cut out those carbonated sugar syrups from your diet as well. Herbal soda. Yes, you heard me. Herbal infused sodas are my new thing. I just make a little herbal tea, add raw sugar, a bit of honey and BAM! I have a great alternative to those nasty, hater drinks that cost way too much. To make your own soda you'll need the … [Read more...]

Water Bead Centerpieces (A Dollar Tree Wedding Sneak Peak)

If you Google water beads you'll find a lot of different fun things to do from sensory activities to flower vase arrangements. I honestly never heard of them until a few months ago during a co-op buy in one of my Facebook groups. I was intrigued, and that's when my window shopping obsession began... I would often get on different water bead websites and add different colors to my cart. However, I was so confused about how X grams looked when the beads were fully expanded. I didn't want to over buy, or not have enough. They're so cheap that shipping seemed silly if you didn't get exactly what you needed. I came to the conclusion that I just … [Read more...]

Making Expired Breast Milk Lotion

This recipe has been revised to account for separation and spoilage issues. Please hop over to the revised version to get your expired breast milk groove on! I have been blessed to spend most of my breastfeeding days at home with my son. Although I did recently decide to go back to work, there's no need to pump much since he's in full toddler mode with the solid food and almond milk consumption. I do, however, have plenty of milk in my freezer taking up space. It's a good thing, too, because that patch of dry skin I thought was pregnancy mask is hanging around making my face look all scabby and blah. Try to ignore the fact that … [Read more...]
