Gift Idea: Gum Roll Ups

My little sister's birthday is today. At 23 she's not so little anymore, but I still will always think of her as a petite princess lost in the crazy world. (She's pretty much a princess.) Anyhow, Princess Ashton loves gum. So for this birthday I supplemented some of my favorite beauty supplies with a creative throwback from my days at summer camp. It's really easy to put together and adds that special "I love you" flare I like to include in gifts that need a handmade touch. You just need Big League Chew and your favorite flavor of stick gum. I like Juicy Fruit, but you can use any flavor. Grab a marble sized chunk of Big League and mold … [Read more...]

Summertime Sun Catcher Craft (inspired by The Dollar Tree)

Summer is out, and for me it's quite the adjustment having both kids all day long. My daughter is under some impression that every single day has to have either a field trip of huge, messy science experiment. She is so crazy! Luckily Florida summers have tons do rain so I can force her to sit inside and do arts and crafts instead. We had a big storm come through central Florida earlier this week, so we needed something to keep us busy most of the day. Luckily The Dollar Tree has tons of neat things to choose from. After just one inexpensive outing we were all set for our Summertime Sun Catcher craft. For this activity you will need the … [Read more...]

No Poo and Hard Water… It’s “Harder” Than It Looks!

I've been no pooing off and on for the better part of four years. It all started with a desire for less maintenance overall. I had just gotten officially separated from my ex-husband and I was rebelling against his idea of the the perfect woman... who happens to also conform to all of the normal society expectations like wearing make-up, shaving, and spending hours worrying about what everyone else thought of you based on appearances. If you know me at all, you might have a clear picture as to why we couldn't possibly fall in love. Go figure! Anyhow, I just dove in one day and was like "Yeah no poo!" I started with the regular regime of … [Read more...]

DIY Ring Sling Baby Carrier

I have a confession. I gave away my Hava Ring Sling. I know, how could I give away a carrier? Well, truth is I just have so many women having babies around me that I needed to spread the babywearing love! But I missed it. I love the ring sling because it's easy to adjust and comfortable. When I found osnaburg fabric for super cheap a few months ago, I grabbed a few yards and dyed them a beautiful rainbow color and got some sling rings to prepare for the awesomeness that is this project. I then let it sit around for a few months until I had so many fellow bloggers like "um where's that tutorial, girl?!" that I had no choice but to just do … [Read more...]

DIY Stripwork Skirt {feat. Marie Madeline Studio}

One of the many reasons I love having a daughter is because I get to experiment and make her fancy outfits. Mama has huge hips which make it a bit difficult to fit into otherwise adorable clothing. But with a 6-year-old frolicking about I can just make everything for her and feel satisfied. I've been slacking on the family traditions department, so for Easter this year I decided we would all dress up and head to a rather large egg hunt at our local church. I have been wanting to make Miss Gaia a patchwork skirt for quite some time, so when I stumbled on the perfect fabrics for such a task I knew it was meant to be. You guys voted, so a … [Read more...]

How to Dye Yarn At Home Using Koolaid

I like to participate in swaps. It makes me happy to give gifts (I've been known to over-stress during the holidays) and I feel like doing internet swaps gives me an excuse to craft at home. It is also really fun to get gifts in the mail too. My most frequented swaps are from Reddit Gifts, but I do sign up for Cara Box Exchanges and other similar bloggy exchanges as well. My most recent successful exchange was the Yarn Swap through Reddit. The reason this was so exciting for me is because I had already stocked the necessary supplies to dye my own yarn at home before the yarn exchange was even announced. I had the perfect excuse now to just … [Read more...]

At-Home Screen Printing (Close, But Not Really)

When I first started planning the details of my trip to Kentucky for Spring Break earlier in March, one of the first things I had to think about was how to keep my little clan bundled from the bipolar weather conditions. (Is anyone else sick of the Winter - Spring - Winter thing? Give Mother Nature some dark chocolate and a glass of wine, jeez!) I have tons of hoodies left over from my brief entrepreneurship of making dinosaur hoodies for kids, so I grabbed one of those and dyed it blue. Blue is for boys, after all. (Just kidding... I happened to have some blue dye on hand is all.) So that wasn't enough for me, so I decided to try my hand … [Read more...]

St. Patrick’s Day Craft: Window Rainbow

We've been getting the weirdest weather here in Central Florida. I forget that other places are all in the middle of some crazy-long winter without an end in sight. I am lucky that the second hand stores are already purging their winter stock with $1 sales and $5 grab bags, or I'd be S.O.L. for my trip next week. It did rain today, which I assumed would bring in some cooler weather for sure. We do have a light breeze, but for the most part everything is still a bit muggy. That's Florida for you. Good thing The Dollar Tree carries such a huge selection of craft supplies and inspiration for every holiday. This year I decided to skip the door … [Read more...]

Valentine’s Day Treat Bag Printable

I love Valentine's Day. I think it is safe to say that I love Valentine's Day even more now that I have children in school. The V-Day crafts and parties are really exciting. Although I'm not there to celebrate the day at school, Gaia and I get to plan out treats for her class each year together. This year she tried to go all boring mode on me. When I asked what she'd like to take to her friends for Valentine's Day she said she wanted "kitty cat cards and Tootsie Rolls." Um... okay? So I utilized my excellent tracing skills, scanner, and a tiny bit of digital design knowledge and came up with this: Totally adorable, right?! I am quite … [Read more...]

How to Make Homemade Neosporin

As my oldest daughter grows older, she has become an accident waiting to happen. (She takes after her clumsy aunt.) She's always had a rough side to her, and she's so curious and exploratory that it's not abnormal for her to get hurt or come to me with a new injury to document her conquests. We're a big band-aid family, often exploring the different styles and patterns in the medicine isle. But instead of also splurging on Neosporin to use to aid the healing process, I have discovered an easy way to make an all-natural alternative. All of the ingredients in the recipe below work together to create a really powerful healing salve similar to … [Read more...]
