My First Time Sewing with Knit Fabric

I work at a craft store in the fabric department and so I see a lot of awesome stuff come through the line. A few months before summer started I spied a beautiful see through feather fabric I just had to buy. I purchased several yards so I could use it over and over. In May my husband and I attended a music festival and I was dressed for comfort. As a mom I forget to be stylish sometimes, and I envied all the younger hip kids in their hippy attire. One young lady in particular had a beautiful flowing tunic over her clothes. When I saw it I knew exactly what to do with my first cut from my feather fabric. I'm no professional … [Read more...]

Big Girls Don’t Cry.

I have been experimenting with different levels of acceptance with my "new" body. I'm still breastfeeding and I quit smoking, so there are some adjustments to be had in the future that may affect this vessel in which I experience life. However, at this moment I am the biggest I have ever been, a whole two sizes bigger than my "fat" pants from several years ago. I've never been a small girl.  I moved from a children's 16 to a juniors 7. Even in my post-high school, angsty, self-hate days when drugs were for breakfast lunch and dinner I was only a size 11. My hips are naturally wide and my breasts are very large. Having my daughter in 2007 … [Read more...]

Just Between Friends

I have always held onto a lot of my baby stuff since Gaia was born almost 7 years ago. I had hoped to pass everything down to future children or at least pass it along to friends making their own families complete. Now that my best friend has been a mother for 6 months, she has a lot of the basics you'd look for. After having many discussions with my fiance, we decided it was time to purge that stuff too. He's fine with the size our family is now. I wasn't until recently. A few weeks ago I was doing chores before work when I tuned into my actions. I was running form room to room in a nonsensical pattern and I was getting about half as much … [Read more...]

The Cure for Fancy Frocks! {Bandelettes Review}

Once upon a time I wore dresses. I've always been partial to pants because I feel like they're on the functional side of daily attire. But a nice frock always gets me excited. I will find a dress I like and horde it. Even if I only wear it to bake Christmas cookies, I will keep it in my closet for years because a fancy frock will make me feel beautiful and womanly in ways none of my pant outfits can. And that, my friends, is worth every inch of space wasted. If you know me personally, or at least well enough to be on my social media channels, you'll maybe have caught that I am at my biggest now than I ever have been thus far in my life. It's … [Read more...]

BeGreen T Review and Kickstarter Initiative

When it comes to being a green mom, there's only one thing I love that's even close to babywearing... And that, my friends, is cloth diapers. Cloth diapers are so easy, guilt free, not to mention they make baby bums look totally cute! When I was offered a chance to review the new line of tee shirts from BeGreen T, well this one was calling my name for sure! These tees are very soft and comfortable. They launder well (I've washed mine twice already). I was surprised because the logos are literally part of the shirt. They aren't painted on with cheap paint, so you don't have to worry about them peeling off from wear. The whole thing is super … [Read more...]

Breastfeeding Awareness Photoshoot feat. Eshakti

Motherhood can take a lot out of you. It's not uncommon for moms to feel run down or frumpy. (Frumpy is totally a word, by the way.) Although I am not normally one to wear dresses, I do enjoy dressing up occasionally. My comfy mom shape makes my entire wardrobe tricky, but thanks to eShakti I had a lovely frock made that was custom fit to my shape and preferences. And what better way to show it off than to have a  fancy photo shoot to honor Breastfeeding Awareness Month. Breastfeeding photos of my 17-month-old toddler are very dear to my heart. We wanted to go with something different while still capturing the essence of our casual … [Read more...]

My Neighbor Totoro Themed Cosplay for Tampa Bay Comic Con 2014

Last week I spent a lot of time on creating the perfect outfits to wear to this year's fall convention. We're lucky because we get two... so if we can't make it to Tampa Bay Comic Con in April (which we didn't) we can plan to try again in August. Because of my work schedule we could only go on Sunday, but that's when we got the best deals on merchandise anyway so I'm not sad. Anyhow, now that I have two children I'm dabbling in these family themes for dressing up. (Hutch will get on board eventually. He's already voiced his regret over not playing along last weekend.) So we started out basic with "My Neighbor Totoro." I used inspiration … [Read more...]

Hotmilk Lingerie Makes Mamas Feel Sexy!

I've been nursing my little man for just a few days shy of 16 months. I had expected us to get at least this far since I made it to 19 with his sister, but what I hadn't expected was how different of a journey it would be. I often find myself enjoying my breastfeeding relationship with my son more than I did with my daughter. And I think a big part of that is because my son has similar limits when it comes to personal space. He's very sweet and snuggly, but he's also quite into doing his own thing. So although he loves his mama milk, he also loves drinking from his sippy while exploring the world. And frankly, I'm perfectly fine with that … [Read more...]

Extending My Breastfeeding Modesty with Undercover Mama

It is not easy to be a big breasted woman on a budget. I tell you that. Essentials for breastfeeding make it even more difficult. Nursing tanks can be really expensive and not all of them work for big breasts. I'm lucky to have held onto the tanks form my first child. They are the old style Target tanks that have been remodeled since to be less awesome. I have 6 of those and live in them. Since my baby is now a toddler he's nursing less. This means I can go much longer between nursing sessions. And what that means is I can wear normal clothes! Or at least close to normal. If I tried really hard I could probably get away with an all day outing … [Read more...]

DIY Stripwork Skirt {feat. Marie Madeline Studio}

One of the many reasons I love having a daughter is because I get to experiment and make her fancy outfits. Mama has huge hips which make it a bit difficult to fit into otherwise adorable clothing. But with a 6-year-old frolicking about I can just make everything for her and feel satisfied. I've been slacking on the family traditions department, so for Easter this year I decided we would all dress up and head to a rather large egg hunt at our local church. I have been wanting to make Miss Gaia a patchwork skirt for quite some time, so when I stumbled on the perfect fabrics for such a task I knew it was meant to be. You guys voted, so a … [Read more...]
