Nevermore Halloween Wreath inspired by Edgar Allan Poe

I love Halloween. I've been meaning to make one of these for a while, but this year I finally got around to bringing my Nevermore Wreath to life. I am very fond of Edgar's poetry, and so it was only fitting to use his poem "The Raven" as inspiration. Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling, By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore, `Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou,' I said, `art sure no craven. Ghastly grim and ancient raven wandering from the nightly shore - Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night's Plutonian shore!' Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.' If you haven't read "The Raven," you can read … [Read more...]

Mama’s Going to School, too!

Going to school is rough for me. Because I love my children and choose to stay at home whenever possible, I have been slowly educating myself with online courses. I've come to a point in my journey towards a Bachelor's in Education where I need to complete field work. I have been hustling the local schools and getting in my observation hours. This means I have to take Hutch to work, get Gaia to school, drop of Anders with milk and hope I don't leak during class. It's all very hectic, I assure you. I briefly mentioned my personal issues with breastfeeding, one of the most annoying feature being leaky breasts. I've been lucky enough to get my … [Read more...]

Halloween Goodies

Gaia has a little Halloween party tomorrow at VPK, so I decided to make cupcakes. I had everything I needed already for this Pumpkin Cupcake recipe, so it worked out. The only thing I bought were the candy corns. I've actually never decorated cupcakes before aside from sprinkles, so it was pretty fun. I know they aren't very scary, but I think they're totally fall-themed so it works out. Pro tip: I use laptop-like boxes for my cupcakes. They have efficient room so the decorations don't get ruined and they're easy to open and to leave out for display. Have you made treats for your child's Halloween party? Share your creativity in the … [Read more...]

2012 Jack-o-lantern

I'm really proud of the way our jack-o-lantern turned out. I designed it, Gaia approved it and helped gut it, and Hutch carved this adorable kitty face. It's okay to be jealous, I don't mind. … [Read more...]

Gaia’s Costume Arrived!

I am so freaking excited about this costume. It's like the best ever. My mom made it all by herself because she's awesomesauce. Hand made with love, ya'll. That's how I grew up for Halloweens and I'm so happy Gaia gets awesome costumes, too. It doesn't get any better. Now the tail is pretty awesome, but my favorite part is the trick-or-treat bag. Super creative stuff! You should go check out my mom's work. She does custom clothing, formal wear, costumes... you name it she'll figure out a way to make it happen. Be jelly! For those of you hoping over from the Handmade Halloween Costume Contest, a disclaimer is needed! I did not make … [Read more...]
