Summer Fun at Lowry Park Zoo’s Wallaroo Station

On May 11, 2002 Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo introduced Wallaroo Station, a 4.5 acre Australian-themed family area, where thousands of families with young children have enjoyed an interactive Australian adventure. The hands-on, family-friendly features helped the Zoo secure top honors from two national parenting magazines: Parents, "10 Best Zoos," (2009); and Child, "The 10 Best Zoos for Kids" (2004). Earlier this week I took the kids to enjoy the newly remodeled Wallaroo Station. It was even more "Auss-ome" with new animals and upgraded amenities for both kids and parents to enjoy. We've only been once before, but we noticed there were … [Read more...]

Holiday Cheer at Busch Gardens® Tampa Christmas Town

Christmas in my family has always been big. We didn't grow up with much, but my mother worker her butt off to make sure that the winter holiday was a joyous one. I normally travel for the holidays to reconnect with distant relatives and spend the days surrounded by people I love. Because of many different things, traveling was not an option this year so my little family of four decided to make the most of our quiet Christmas at home. In order to still make this year memorable, we looked for things to do here in Tampa that would have the kids excited all month long. One of our favorite excursions was when we visited Busch Gardens® Tampa for … [Read more...]

A Day with the Mermaids at Weeki Wachee State Park

I had always heard about Weeki Wachee while growing up. I had seen the signs all along the interstate when traveling as a kid down to Orlando with my parents on vacation. as the years went by, I assumed it had closed due to lack of the advertising that you see for other Florida attractions. while down this past summer to see my daughter and grandkids, I noticed signs for it and as I have a granddaughter who loves mermaids, I decided to take them to see the story of The Little Mermaid performed by real live mermaids! That opportunity presented itself when my daughter set her wedding date for November 8th and asked if I would come stay with … [Read more...]

Out and About with Catwoman {Girls Costumes Review}

I guess it's normal for a child to be excited about spending summer break with Grandma. Honestly, I thought I'd be excited too. She's been gone 5 days now and I miss her terribly. And I'm not the only one... Anders has been pretty lonely these last few days. I made sure they had plenty of fun together before she left though. We're lucky to live in such a child-friendly apartment complex. Sometimes Gaia feels a little more than heroic, so she decided to spend last Friday dressed as one of her favorite DC Comics characters: Catwoman. As you can see, she's having quite the blast enjoying her childhood as one of the best female heroes. The … [Read more...]

Keeping Up the Fun with 5-hour ENERGY®

Disclaimer: I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for #CollectiveBias and its advertiser.  Being a mom is hard work. There's the early wake up calls, the demand for food, the chores, the "I didn't really plan to clean poop off my walls today" incidents, and the frantic search to squeeze in some me time. I admittedly sacrifice sleep for "me time." Sometimes I reach for copious amounts of coffee trying to perfectly time the crash around nap time. Other times I need to stay alert and get things done. That's where 5-hour ENERGY® shots come in … [Read more...]

A Prehistoric Adventure!

We celebrated Memorial Day at Dinosaur World. We literally live like 15-20 minutes from this theme park an it's a shame we don't get the chance to head out there more often. As first timers, we were afraid we'd signed up for something we weren't prepared for. But to much of our delight, Dinosaur World Florida was the perfect mix of laid back and fun so we were able to explore at our own pace and leave with smiling faces. I took my daughter and her father, because although we are no longer together we like to make a real effort to connect and stay friends. Because I'm not only a good friend but also the perfect ex-wife, his girlfriend and … [Read more...]

5 Reasons Why Hatchbacks are More Fun

Tuesday, November 12, I bought a Prius. It's a 5 door 2005 silver vehicle with a rebuilt battery and lots of love. I wasn't sure how I would react to actually making the purchase even though it is exactly what I was looking for. I have only ever owned two cars in my entire life. Okay three, but the Honda Civic that was older than me and broke down once a week over the course of the two months I owned..? It doesn't count. She has her bumps and bruises and I have to take her back to the dealership to get the passenger door lock fixed (the censor is broken so you have to manually lock and unlock - #firstworldproblems), but otherwise she's … [Read more...]

[Almost] Wordless Wednesday #14

We went to this magnificent park last weekend. It's adorable and of course it's hidden from the main road. We just barely spotted it between some trees on the river next to our complex. It's a fabulous park and one of the nicest I've seen ever. It's a memorial, but for whom I can't tell you. There are names on everything, but I don't know if it's specific to a certain cause. Here's the non-park memorial in the back. I'm sad this turned out fuzzy. I didn't notice when I took the photo. "Angel of Life - Our children loved, remembered, and missed." The floor is covered in names of loved ones lost. This adorable … [Read more...]

My hair really is a wasps’ nest.

I had just got finished painting my nails at the park and we returned home. I went to the bathroom to put my polishes away and took a glance in the mirror because no doubt the wind had created a big poofy post-shower mess of my hair. So there I am in the mirror, big poofy hair mess. This time there was a bonus, a big ugly mean wasp. Yes, a wasp. In my hair. [source] I didn't know what to do. I have never been stung by a wasp or a bee and, although I hear it's not a huge deal for us adults, I do not really want to find out what it feels like. I didn't want it in my house either, so I ran back outside. It was good timing because the … [Read more...]

Park Day Picnic

We have this adorable park in our apartment complex. I admit we don't go every day even though it takes 30 seconds to get there. The problem with it is that anytime we go to any park Gaia throws a fit when it's time to go. It doesn't matter if it's 5 minutes or an hour, there's a tantrum every time. Today I somehow magically avoided it.   I love Publix. This is not an exaggeration.   1 \ On our way home from Publix Gaia always stops at this assisted living home to play on the hill. Sometimes there are adorable old people sitting on the porch in the background and they talk to her and give her sweets. :) 2 \ Chowing down on some … [Read more...]
