Thanks for my #SparkleVoxBox!

I received my Sparkle VoxBox weeks before Halloween, and I thought it only came with three products. I thought I would use the lashes for my costume, but I was so tired from a crazy day at work that I barely put any effort into that evening. I'm grateful that I had some Numi Tea to relax. Our favorite product from this "three-item box" was the Garnier Sulfate Free Cleanser. Believe it or not, my 9-year-old (10 in 3 weeks... what?!) is suffering from acne. It started very recently, but she's already come home crying because some jerk (a dumb boy) is making fun of her. We tried two cleansers so far and no results. With Garnier's new face … [Read more...]

Learning to Love Lipstick {Lipsense review}

Summer is a strange thing. I live in Florida and the heat is so intense for me. I want to be one of those people who love summer and who hit up the beach every day to work on their tan lines... I'm not. I stay inside and I cover from the humidity and I get myself all depressed. I have reverse seasonal depression... as in the summer is when I turn into a hermit and find reasons to hate myself. The truth is I'm disgustingly happy and I have to keep reminding myself of that. One way I was fighting off that nasty feeling I was describing earlier is by taking a significant time each day for me and me only. I did the usual reading and studying … [Read more...]

Labeling All the Things! {a Label Daddy review}

My first year teaching 5th grade had some surprises for sure. It was definitely a learning experience to see what I needed to focus on and what areas I could grow. Professional development aside, perfect the day-to-day operations of the classroom was a challenge! If anything I am thankful to have had such a great group of kids to "practice on" as I move to a new school to try it all over again. One of my downfalls was having a time consuming check out process. Instead I'm using this summer to organize my classroom library to ensure that the honor system can work for my students. Procedures and practice... But first: organization! I … [Read more...]

I’m Worth It {a YOUnique review}

I have a friend who I felt was with me when it came to "looking like a mom." You know the look: sweatpants/yoga pants and a tee shirt adorned with spit up. The head is topped with a very non-cute messy bun and there are big fat sad circles under the eyes. It happens. But there comes a time when the kids are not babies anymore and you have to get yourself out of that rut. My friend Elena got there before me. Elena is now one of my favorite, down to earth make up fanatic friends! She needed a little confidence, and she found the boost in motivation she was looking for with YOUnique products. I am not a fancy gal. But watching Elena … [Read more...]

DIY Perfectly Posh Pump Soap

I love making stuff at home, but I'll admit that I'm a sucker for reliable brands that do exactly what I want without the work. I've had some successes here and there, but I really dig being able to share ideals with a big brand. It makes me feel part of a community of people with the same ideas about health and beauty. And that, my friends, is powerful. My good friend Becki started selling Posh products a little over a year ago. Call me mean, but I first blew it off thinking a "new Avon" was afoot. Well it was soon I found that Posh was way more than that. Perfectly Posh prides itself in pampering without all the complicated icky … [Read more...]

Red Clay & Roses {a giveaway}

A few years ago one of my very best friends said, "Hey my mom wrote a book!" I admit I probably said something slightly rude and indifferent like, "Cool. Everyone is writing eBooks these days..." I mean, it's quite true. Everywhere you turn you see some new eBook shoved in your face about this new thing, or people trying to put their interesting lives in memoir form slapped with the convenience stamp of buying it 5 days after the idea was conceived. However, S.K. Nicholls turned out quite different for me. It wasn't until last summer that I finally dug into her first novel, Red Clay & Roses. Red Clay & Roses takes place … [Read more...]

A Thanks to THINX! {a review}

If you're new here, here's something I want you to know: pads and tampons are harmful to your body. These days finding a menstrual cup or cloth pads isn't all that hard. In fact, there's even a product that keeps you feeling fresh without the mess. The best part is, you don't even have to alter your morning routine. THINX is a brand of underwear made just for women during menstruation. People often freak out when you mention "free bleeding." But it's really more like wearing a pad than anything else. Just imagine THINX as a pair of underwear with a built in pad that isn't filled with nasty chemicals that poison your vagina. The … [Read more...]

Having the Talk

When I pulled my daughter out of public school after kindergarten, it was half to reconnect and half due to the attitudes small children have about life. I don't know if you noticed, but children today are growing up fast. We made a deal back then, and at the conclusion of our first grade year with home education we decided to try public school again. However, per our agreement, I had new expectations for my daughter when it came to communication. I did not want this new, abrasive society getting to her before I did about certain topics. One of those topics is sex. I come from a complex past when it comes to sex, but one thing I am … [Read more...]

Summer Fun at Lowry Park Zoo’s Wallaroo Station

On May 11, 2002 Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo introduced Wallaroo Station, a 4.5 acre Australian-themed family area, where thousands of families with young children have enjoyed an interactive Australian adventure. The hands-on, family-friendly features helped the Zoo secure top honors from two national parenting magazines: Parents, "10 Best Zoos," (2009); and Child, "The 10 Best Zoos for Kids" (2004). Earlier this week I took the kids to enjoy the newly remodeled Wallaroo Station. It was even more "Auss-ome" with new animals and upgraded amenities for both kids and parents to enjoy. We've only been once before, but we noticed there were … [Read more...]

A Dollar Tree Easter

We're not huge on Easter celebrations, but we always do an egg hunt and take Easter Sunday to rest and reflect. I am just getting to feel out my relationship with God, so this weekend I'll be reflecting on what the resurrection day means to me. Regardless of how you feel religiously, I think Easter can be really fun for the kids. My own 7-year-old has confessed that Easter is her favorite holiday. This is news to me, but its no excuse to slack for this busy mama. When it comes to Easter essentials, the Dollar Tree is always my first stop. The Dollar Tree has everything you need for any holiday preparation. I stock up on eggs and candy … [Read more...]
