Labeling All the Things! {a Label Daddy review}

My first year teaching 5th grade had some surprises for sure. It was definitely a learning experience to see what I needed to focus on and what areas I could grow. Professional development aside, perfect the day-to-day operations of the classroom was a challenge! If anything I am thankful to have had such a great group of kids to "practice on" as I move to a new school to try it all over again. One of my downfalls was having a time consuming check out process. Instead I'm using this summer to organize my classroom library to ensure that the honor system can work for my students. Procedures and practice... But first: organization! I … [Read more...]

Top 5 Pinterest Finds {May}

I slacked since my last post. I remembered my monthly Pinterest commitment, but forgot again immediately after.  But I am here within reasonable limits, so without further ado...   Top left, clcokwise: 1 // EOY Desk Arrangement // I used this for my last week of school and it worked rather well because I could easily see all students and keep good proximity control. I might try it again for the beginning of this year. 2 // DIY Fidget Spinners // Fidget spinners are soo annoying right now. I have taken more of these than anything else. Well, I lie... I actually recycled more plastic water bottles than anything else... 3 … [Read more...]

Top 5 Pinterest Finds {April}

I haven't found myself with a whole lot of free time lately, and I admit I'm super stressed most of my days. However, I still catalog all my favorite finds on Pinterest and I always pull from there when I find myself needing to create something to call my own. Since I'm attempting to ease back into blogging, I want to see if this idea for my "Top 5 Pins" sticks. So here's my top list from my pins in April. Top left, clockwise: 1 // All-Natural Protective Paw Wax // I added this because I made my sister's dog some protective paw wax over Christmas, and when I came across this recipe I thought it sounded a lot better. I don't have … [Read more...]

Worth it.

I'm really bad at this. I wanted to take pictures of my classroom before the students got there, but I forgot. I actually never remember to do that. However, I have taken a couple here and there. So for those of you wondering what my first year teaching looks like. Here's a sneak peak. First and foremost, my white board. I planned it out with dry erase and it worked wonderfully. I changed my Students vs. Teacher blocks to homework and reminders. I've noticed the kids need this visual. I can incorporate a point system later if needed. And it turned out rather well. I admit I'm not using CHAMPS enough. I'm trying, but it's … [Read more...]

From Student to Teacher: How I Compiled My Teaching Portfolio

Ya'll, I graduated! It is the most wonderful feeling in the world to finally be done after all this time. I can barely put it into words, but being done with school [for now] was an amazing adventure. This is the end of the beginning for me, and I'm so grateful for all of the love and support I have received. Technically I'm still finishing up my last class, but all of my assignment have been turned in and graded (because I'm a baller like that) so I'm just waiting for the clock to strike twelve, so to speak. I've also passed all my certification exams! Now I'm just on to the hard part: finding a job. When I was researching my final … [Read more...]
