No Poo and Hard Water… It’s “Harder” Than It Looks!

I've been no pooing off and on for the better part of four years. It all started with a desire for less maintenance overall. I had just gotten officially separated from my ex-husband and I was rebelling against his idea of the the perfect woman... who happens to also conform to all of the normal society expectations like wearing make-up, shaving, and spending hours worrying about what everyone else thought of you based on appearances. If you know me at all, you might have a clear picture as to why we couldn't possibly fall in love. Go figure! Anyhow, I just dove in one day and was like "Yeah no poo!" I started with the regular regime of … [Read more...]

5 Tips to Stop Smoking (and keep it that way)

I haven't had a single puff of a cigarette since January 20th. This Earth Day/Easter I'll also be celebrating 90 days tobacco free! How exciting is that?! I made it, guys. I'm officially comfortable calling myself a non-smoker. [Cue confetti.] I just want you guys to know that it feels really strange to be advocating for quitting tobacco. I told myself (and my friends) that I enjoyed smoking. I said I needed it in order to hold onto those moments to myself. I had no interest in quitting. Smoking was mine and no one was going to take it away from me. But it had to be done. It wasn't even my health I was worried about, folks. It was my … [Read more...]

Fold a Nursing Cover Without Damaging the Boning

Anders is teething. Molars or something. I don't really know, but I know it's driving me batty. Since I have a busy week next week preparing for our trip to Kentucky (I'm going alone with two kids... kill me), I'm trying my best to stay ahead on my "important stuff." None of which is actually a necessity, but the stress of having things to do makes me feel alive. I work best under pressure. I just got finished writing a letter to an old friend. In it I explained how I've been making these little to-do lists and rewarding myself for crossing things off. I read once that productivity motivates you. Apparently it's best to put easy things on … [Read more...]

Cloth Diapering Lessons I Learned the Hard Way

My dive into cloth diapering was quite sudden. It wasn't something I had researched before Gaia was born, but rather something I simply came across while she was a newborn. I had been moved up north and since Gaia was a winter baby and I'm just a Florida girl, we did not like venturing out into the snow. Making a run for diapers was just silly. I admit it took a few articles to get me going, but once I realized how easy it all was I was sold. I began Gaia's stash at a month old and it was under $100. I had to buy and sell and try some things out, but I had FuzziBunz and Baby Soft Wraps at the end of our diaper days. My second baby was going … [Read more...]

5 Reasons Why Hatchbacks are More Fun

Tuesday, November 12, I bought a Prius. It's a 5 door 2005 silver vehicle with a rebuilt battery and lots of love. I wasn't sure how I would react to actually making the purchase even though it is exactly what I was looking for. I have only ever owned two cars in my entire life. Okay three, but the Honda Civic that was older than me and broke down once a week over the course of the two months I owned..? It doesn't count. She has her bumps and bruises and I have to take her back to the dealership to get the passenger door lock fixed (the censor is broken so you have to manually lock and unlock - #firstworldproblems), but otherwise she's … [Read more...]

How to be a pleasant guest (AKA: tips to make life easier)

I'm getting to the point at work where I am making more money on average. Twice this week I've broken $100 and that's progress because I only expect about $50 a day. Though I'm learning to bite my tongue on a more regular basis, I've notice some situations that just make my job harder. Why should you care? Because, my friends, if I despise going to a table you're going to have just as much of an unpleasant experience. Here's a list of things to keep in mind when going out to eat. Don't go out to eat in a bad mood. If you and your companion get into an argument, turn the car around or resolve it (or get over it) in the car. If you are … [Read more...]
