Valentine’s Day Treat Bag Printable

I love Valentine's Day. I think it is safe to say that I love Valentine's Day even more now that I have children in school. The V-Day crafts and parties are really exciting. Although I'm not there to celebrate the day at school, Gaia and I get to plan out treats for her class each year together. This year she tried to go all boring mode on me. When I asked what she'd like to take to her friends for Valentine's Day she said she wanted "kitty cat cards and Tootsie Rolls." Um... okay? So I utilized my excellent tracing skills, scanner, and a tiny bit of digital design knowledge and came up with this: Totally adorable, right?! I am quite … [Read more...]

Simple Valentine’s Tree Topper

We really enjoy the happiness having a holiday tree inspires in our little apartment. I think having a holiday tree is going to be a tradition we continue for quite a while. Gaia really enjoys coming up with ideas for each holiday, and even Hutch has chimed in with his opinion on how to make each decorating idea unique and fun for everyone. We used pinterest to make a nice long heart garland for Valentine's day, but our tree just needed a little something more to bring out it's full potential. Here's my idea of a tree-topper that's super simple and easy! Materials needed: cardstock - I used red embroidery thread - I used white bulletin … [Read more...]

Pinterest Inspired Valentine’s Day Garland

We decided to keep out Christmas tree up until our lease for this apartment expires this summer. Honestly it just provides too great of a light source to worry bout taking it down at this time. Our living room has no built-in lighting, so we have to constantly make due with what we have. So our Christmas tree is now a holiday tree. Today we finally got around to adding some love-inspired garland to it. I was cutting out little felt hearts for probably a total of 2 hours. We went with purple and black to the added pink, red, and white Valentine's theme you traditionally see. I hand threaded them onto some embroidery thread, but I didn't like … [Read more...]

Maman’s Beef & Peppers

Thursday I was supposed to have a doula come over. I did slack a bit since my last cleaning spree, so since I was expecting company I decided to just stop being lazy and get back in the swing of being productive. I turned on some Funkadelic and cleaned my living room, put Christmas decorations away (shhh!), and got the kitchen super shiny looking. It's not much, but it is more than I've been doing the last few days. Of course my doula came down with a cold and rescheduled... I also busted out the crock pot, which I hadn't done in a while. I used to use it at least two or three times a week, but like I said... I've been slacking. Recently my … [Read more...]

Happy Valentine’s Day

Valentine's Day, honestly, has never been something I've celebrated besides dressing up my daughter in little girly hearts. My mother made Gaia this adorable dress, but it's a little big and I have yet to fix it. (Right after this, I promise. I actually have other things to do on the sewing machine today, so that'll be my inspiration.)   Today though, I'm celebrating a different way. I'm participating in the Valentine's Day Online Facebook Nurse-In. "Despite a policy change, Facebook is continuing to target and harass women by removing their photos and suspending their accounts. There is a point at which Facebook will no longer be able … [Read more...]

Humanities Day – Valentines Edition!

Welcome to Humanities day! This semester I'm taking weekend classes and on Saturdays I have Humanities: Enlightenment and Romanticism. I'm going to venture away from the Enlightenment and Romanticism to share with you some of my favorite love-themed pieces in humanities. Alex Grey painting "Love is a Cosmic Force" [<3] I love Alex Grey's work. This is one of my favorites, however risque it may be. It's in my standard signature when I send emails, so if I email you I just might forget to erase it and you'll get a little art-porn. It's so lovely though! A poem... Sonnet CXXX by William Shakespeare: My mistress' eyes are nothing like the … [Read more...]
