Worth it.

I'm really bad at this. I wanted to take pictures of my classroom before the students got there, but I forgot. I actually never remember to do that. However, I have taken a couple here and there. So for those of you wondering what my first year teaching looks like. Here's a sneak peak. First and foremost, my white board. I planned it out with dry erase and it worked wonderfully. I changed my Students vs. Teacher blocks to homework and reminders. I've noticed the kids need this visual. I can incorporate a point system later if needed. And it turned out rather well. I admit I'm not using CHAMPS enough. I'm trying, but it's … [Read more...]

Mom’s Broken Sleep Cycle

In previous years I always prided myself on being "the cool mom" who let my kids stay up late. They'd pass out when tired and I'd surpass them with my binge-Netflix marathons and catch up on my favorite video games. Since adults need less sleep than the little ones, it would work out in my favor because I could stay up until the early hours of the morning and still get enough sleep before the kids would rise around 10 or 11am.  Everyone got enough sleep, we just weren't active morning people. Now that my daughter has chosen to go back to public school, she has to adjust to waking up in the morning. I do too. So I changed my routine to go … [Read more...]

Finishing School

I have been attending college since 2005. Ten years ago I graduated high school and began a journey that took me 2.5 times as long as most college graduates with a 4 year degree. I am not ashamed, albeit a little disappointed. I decided not to attend my high school reunion this summer. It was organized by peers who somehow managed to coordinate all over the world while on fancy adventures of adulthood while I popped out babies and struggled to get out from behind this wall of poverty. I was really excited until tickets went on sale. They were pricey, and I knew that all the losers I hung out with in school weren't even going to be able … [Read more...]

I’m a Jealous, Lonely Mama.

My friend Kristen talks about how motherhood is lonely. I'd be lying if I didn't shed a tear by the end of her confession about feeling totally and utterly alone. It's true, even if you're blessed with loving children and surrounded by a loving partner and a handful of friends, motherhood can still be one of the loneliest places to be at the end of the day. Because my babies have such a huge gap I can look back and recall that feeling with my oldest. That feeling when she wasn't a baby anymore, but some crazy independent tiny person learning to do things all by herself. The loneliness started creeping in somewhere close to her second … [Read more...]

My absence…

I will be returning. I never meant to neglect this blog for so long. Life just gets hectic and there's so much going on right now. I will try to sum it up briefly... Work: I quit my job because of stress and frequent emotional breakdowns. I don't want t admit it, but I don't think I'm cut out for monotonous bullshit where I am underpaid and overworked. I did not feel appreciated at all at my job as a waitress and the area I currently live in was filled with too many assholes that I couldn't handle. School: Because I couldn't find another job, I started back at school. Yes, I wanted to continue my education anyway, but fact of the matter is … [Read more...]

How to be a pleasant guest (AKA: tips to make life easier)

I'm getting to the point at work where I am making more money on average. Twice this week I've broken $100 and that's progress because I only expect about $50 a day. Though I'm learning to bite my tongue on a more regular basis, I've notice some situations that just make my job harder. Why should you care? Because, my friends, if I despise going to a table you're going to have just as much of an unpleasant experience. Here's a list of things to keep in mind when going out to eat. Don't go out to eat in a bad mood. If you and your companion get into an argument, turn the car around or resolve it (or get over it) in the car. If you are … [Read more...]

Proclaiming victory!!!

Our porch is finally screened in now. While I was at work the other day Hutch completely cleaned it off including spraying the ceiling down and sweeping away dead carcasses of wasps. If you've been around for any amount of time, you may remember that I hate wasps and they tend to ruin my life. However, thanks to my fantastic property manager and terrific boyfriend, I no longer have to worry about my porch being infested. No more wasps. Halleluiah. That's not all I have to be grateful for. I made a decent paycheck at work and made over $400 dollars this week in tips. What does that mean? Well, it means I don't have to dig into my savings … [Read more...]

What I’m Up To Wednesday

I'm getting really bad at socializing lately, especially when it comes to posting on my blog. Everything was going fabulously for a while. Of course, knowing my life, it could only go on for so long before something happened. We'll make it through, because that's just how life works for us and we're used to it. Meanwhile, I've been sitting about moping to myself and shutting down. I'm about to start my period. Sure, I already knew that because of my fancy little app on the boyfriend's phone. But a sure sign is when I start crying over music. Today I had a nice cry to the tune of Arcade Fire's "Funeral" album. It's so good. I was asking for … [Read more...]

Another Monday! Yay!

I'm celebrating my three days off by proudly wearing my piercings, painting my nails every day, and catching up on some video games. My tongue was a pain to get back in as the hole really wanted to close. But after that was finished I somehow magically got my snake bite hoops on. Ladies and gents, this is the first time I've ever been able to work the tiny little rings myself. I normally have to go to a parlor if I want to wear the rings and beg a piercer to put the little balls on. I'm so excited! I decided to do pink and black last night. I don't know if I like the pink accent nail, but it'll have to do for now. Glitter polish is too much … [Read more...]

Work, etc.

I have my pet peeves about working in the restaurant business, which is why I have been desperately searching for a major to go to school towards. I kind of needed a break after the last three weeks to tell you the truth. Between my feet and my frustration, I felt myself getting totally worn out. Thankfully we are closing today at 3pm for front of the house remodeling. I'll only be out of work a few days and yesterday was rough. Two servers called out on a Saturday, folks. It was not fun. I was busy until 2pm. And we didn't get breaks because we were already short staffed. By 4 it slowed down enough for there to just be two of us, but we … [Read more...]
